Key Accountabilities:
Provide focused short-term support for refinery units, including start-up and shutdown, turnaround, troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, and remote collaboration data analysis and decision guidance.
Provide medium and long-term support by means of safety improvements, project evaluation and assurance, leveraging BP research laboratory resources, and implementation of new technology options.
Conduct technical training and mentoring for refinery engineers and operating staff.
Contribute to BP's technology knowledge base by participating in peer assist discussions, contributing to the Q&A forum, and capturing learnings in BP's technical handbooks.
Support the Discipline Leader and Refining Advisors in providing technical leadership to the Continuous Improvement Forums.
Essential Education:
B.S. or Advanced Degree in Corrosion, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
Experience supporting the operation of refining or petrochemical units.
A track record of improving safety, reliability, and performance of refining or petrochemical units.
Knowledge of refinery corrosion damage mechanisms.
Desirable Criteria:
One or more prior assignments at a refinery supporting operations, reliability, or process unit optimization.
Previous experience as a refinery corrosion engineer.
Familiarity with Continuous Improvement techniques, Root Cause Failure Analysis, and/or Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
Process modelling skills using a flowsheet application such as Hysys or OLI.
Experience with online corrosion monitoring technology.
A working knowledge of engineering fundamentals as applied to core refinery process technologies.
PhD in Corrosion, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.
Experience with data science tools and methods.
Experience in designing and running corrosion coupon laboratory experiments and coaching laboratory technicians.
Experience in reviewing Corrosion Control Documents (CCD), participation in Damage Mechanism Reviews (DMR), and establishment of Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs).
