Job Description

BACKGROUND
IPMC is part of the Sustainable Development Network of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is responsible for: a) the quality of the social development aspects of the governments lending and non-lending operations; and b) quality enhancement of the social development portfolio. We seek to empower the poor by increasing their social assets and capacities. It aims to promote inclusive institutions, thereby increasing opportunities for more secure livelihoods, ultimately creating more gender-equitable, inclusive and just societies. IPMC contributes to increased development effectiveness and helps projects, programs and policies better meet their goals and objectives. IPMC is currently implementing an initiative to formulate an operational framework for enhancing development benefits to the Urban Water Sector Reform, facilitate Water supply and Sanitation projects in local communities as part of the wider Sustainable Development Network’s effort to ensure that infrastructure projects are socially and environmentally sustainable.
IPMC is recruiting a Hydraulic Engineer to deal with the control and flow of fluids, especially water and using the fluid mechanics theory and principles to deal with the problems related to storage, collection, transportation, control, regulation, study the environment, the water, its forces, and helps in creating concepts and designing structures to support the assigned purpose in enhancing and  development benefits to local communities in the Urban Water Sector Reform, integrated water supply management development, sanitation projects, and other similar infrastructure and industry projects.
 
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
They are responsible in designing and providing supervision and guidance in the development of different projects that will be used to maintain a city’s water supply as well as fixing the drainage system to prevent floods and other water related accidents from happening.
Ensures that the completed projects will withstand wear and tear by performing maintenance and research work. They will need to establish or improve on a design based on the properties of the body of water that needs to be controlled.
Identifies the right materials that are needed to be used in the construction of a facility that would control water behavior. This includes equipment such as pumps, pipes, conduits and turbines.
To study and analyze the details involved in the survey reports and any other data that has the geological or topographical details and to pay attention to the details in the blue prints, maps, and other related drawings
To prepare rough cost estimates that would include the cost of the equipment, material as well as the labor cost that is required to complete the project within the given deadline
To lead, direct, and supervise the staff members and to ensure that all the activities at the actual site are being managed and carried out effectively
To be involved in designing structures and advise the subordinate members regarding any changes that need to be made and communicate it to the management
To ensure that all the project specifications have been met and that all the safety and sanitation measures have been taken care of
To identify the technical or any other issues, resolve them, and to prepare the reports related to various proposals, deeds, etc.

 
SELECTION CRITERIA
The selected candidate must have completed at least a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college in water resources engineering, civil engineering, etc, and related engineering course with a minimum of 10 years of experience - preferably but not exclusively in developing countries.
The candidate who has comprehensive and in-depth expertise in Engineering and Technology, Additional licensure or previous work experience in designing hydraulic systems or components in urban water sector reform and sanitation or similar infrastructure projects will be given priority.
Must be certified as a professional engineer
Minimum requirements include: 
Proven ability to conceptualize, design and implement sustainable and community development projects
Proven ability to conduct culturally sensitive and gender-sensitive consultations with local communities, including Indigenous Peoples, which produce real results and lead to positive outcomes. 
Ability to make principled and balanced decisions and able to operate effectively in a results-oriented culture, combined with an understanding of the cultural diversity, gender bias and political environment in the sub-Sahara region
Demonstrated professional leadership and the ability to coordinate a team of professionals in the implementation of major development efforts 
Ability to work within a highly diverse team and multi-professional environment where financial, technical, environmental and social aspects must be taken into consideration and balanced in the study and decision-making process
