Under general supervision, perform field inspections, observations and/or testing of construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents and specifications in accordance with established procedures
Read and interpret construction documents including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, standards, codes and shopping drawings
Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete inspection reports and/or testing records on a daily basis in accordance with established quality
Perform analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Supervisor
Document, track and communicate of construction non-conformance
Under general supervision and direction, interact with clients and other site personnel provide input on appropriate resolution of issues and findings
Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers
Assist more senior inspectors on large, complex projects
Perform field testing and sampling of construction materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TNDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment
Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration
Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects; Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work; Report any safety issues or concerns to management
Skills / Qualifications
Experience and clear understanding of Drawing MTOs, Positive Material Identification, and their Specification Requirements, understanding of Job Card Systems, Material Selection, Bag & Tag System, Inventory Skills, Forward Planning Skills, Communication Skills, and any other work within his capabilities. Must be proficient in the use of common PC Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.). Read, Write and Speak English fluently.
Required :
Minimum 15 years of construction inspection experience or the equivalent in training and related experience
ACI Concrete Field Testing Grade I certification
At least one of following certification:
NICET Level II or higher certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete and/or Soils)
One or more ICC Special Inspector certification on Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Sprayed Fireproofing, and/or Pre-stressed/post-tensioned Concrete
Valid Driver's License required
Reliability - must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
Ability to prepare reports and documentation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Preferred, but not Required :
Associate degree in civil engineering technology or construction engineering technology
Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Certified in Radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation
It is preferred that experienced inspectors at this Level have and maintain one or more following certifications:
ICC certification in Structural Steel - Bolting and/or Structural Steel - Welding.
American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) and/or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in more than one of the following areas:
Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT),
Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
PCI Level I or Level II
