Job Brief
We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to lead and manage multiple operations of the tax practice area and to deliver quality tax services that will increase a firm’s reputation. You will serve as a business advisor to our clients aiming at maximizing engagement and achieving qualitative outcomes. The ideal candidate is a team player who manages the tax team to greater performance, creates and implements tax plans and works with the accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with state federal and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. The ideal candidate is single-minded in their pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Perform tax services in compliance with laws and regulations
Build relationships with clients to provide excellent planning, consulting and expertise
Manage innovative tax planning programs
Review complex income tax returns
Identify all tax risks
Manage tax provision and tax compliance process
Suggest innovating solutions for process improvement using best practices
Manage and coordinate tax audits
Manage and track tax balances on a general ledger
Prepare all tax papers on a regular basis and handle all data requests
Facilitate and manage the preparation and review company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the tax team.
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
Provide support with various internal audits and special tax-related projects.
Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.
Manage and mentor members of the tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
Tax Manager Requirements and Qualifications:
First degree in any social sciences, BA in Accounting or MA in Taxation
Professional certificate in accounting (eg. ACCA, ACMA, ICAN, etc.),
6 years of experience as a Tax Manager or similar role
12 years post qualification
Good knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance, and relevant laws
Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
Team player
Good time-management skills
Great interpersonal and communication skills
At least Twelve (12) years post qualification and relevant tax experience in project monitoring and evaluation in oil and gas projects are definitely preferred.
Familiarity with oil and gas sector financial management systems in government and multilateral operations.
Comprehensive computer skills with practical knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word & Excel) and MS Project.
Knowledge of project monitoring and evaluation, and contract management procedure in oil and gas projects would be considered a merit.
